State of Nature 2024 - Shellfish & Marine Invertebrates

The precise number of invertebrate species that the Isle of Man’s coastlines and marine underwater environment support is unknown, however, the NBN Atlas Isle of Man currently includes 136 species of crustacea, 68 sponges, 48 tunicate species and hundreds of marine worm and mollusc species.

Seasearch surveys data has recorded a total number of 11082 invertebrate records between 2005 and 2021. This data represents 570 marine taxa, including 167 marine molluscs, 106 cnidaria (jellyfish), 70 arthropods (crustacea), 62 porifera (sponges) and 47 species of echinoderm (Starfish/Urchins).
