Seal sitters

What we're doing

As seal numbers increase and we experience more stormy conditions as a result of climate breakdown, young seals are hauling up around our coast on unsuitable beaches. Often they are just tired and in need of a rest and this is where our seal sitters come in. They keep a watchful eye on the seals to make sure people and dogs keep their distance and they can get the rest they need before heading back out to sea. However, occasionally they may be injured or sick. If this is the case an assessment is made by the team and as a very last resort the individual may be brought in by one of our marine mammal medics (MMM) and taken to the rehab centre where it is looked after by our trained volunteers, before being released back to the wild when it's ready.
