Education and Engagement Sessions:

All our corporate members have exclusive access to adult education and engagement sessions which can be run at your offices or on our reserves. Give your team members the opportunity to learn more about local wildlife and equip them with the skills to do more for Manx conservation.

Short educational talks, which we would deliver at your workplace during the lunch hour*:

  1. Our Amazing Manx Wildlife: A session showcasing the amazing diversity of life in our Island. Aided by MWT specimens and picture quiz sheet. How much do you know about the biodiversity of the Island? Be prepared to be amazed.
  2. Beautiful Bugs: Our insects are amazing, using live specimens you will examine them under the microscope and appreciate their true beauty.
  3. Making Homes for Bees: There’s nothing like the sound of a bumble bee buzzing past.  Gain some top tips to attract bees into your garden, learn how to identify the common bees and make a mug-sized bee home for your own garden.
  4. Feed the Birds: Everyone loves to watch the birds which visit their garden. Find out about which birds prefer which foods and if they are ground or bird table feeding birds.
  5. Wildlife in Your Garden: We all know about declining numbers of insects, birds, and hedgehogs but you can help them and encourage more to visit you at home. Ideas for both small (even flowerpot sized!) and bigger gardens.

Longer sessions out in the field, ideal for your staff and their families*:

  1. Seashore Safari: A 1 ½ hour session enjoying the excitement of rock pooling and learn a bit more about the creatures which inhabit this area. Excellent family fun.
  2. Wild Wallabies: Come on a nature trail around the beautiful and unique Curraghs wetland area and find out about our newest settlers, the wallabies.
  3. The Big Little Bug Hunt: This is a must event for being hands on in nature. We have many different species of insects on Island from the ferocious looking devil’s coach horse beetle to the almost alien ladybird larvae. Help search for them and find out more.
  4. Pond & Stream Dipping: Our waterways are brimming with life. This session involves using nets to dip into the water and an examination up close with magnifying glasses. The aquatic insect’s life cycle is something to be marvelled at.
  5. Nature Reserve Guided Walk: A relaxing walk through some stunning scenery looking at the flora and fauna which we encounter on the way.
  6. Rewilding Your Workplace: Task-force your workforce and improve your work environment at the same time. Being in contact with nature has been proven to reduce stress and increase self-esteem. Why not enhance that by finding out how to attract wildlife to your office grounds?

Staff Engagement Activities:

Join us for a Wild Work Day on our conservation projects. Your corporate membership would entitle your staff to take part in our imperative work which benefits wildlife and people alike. Our projects change on a regular basis as and when things are completed and new issues arise. Examples of activities that your business could get involved in are below:

Millpond Clean on the Calf

The draining the millpond for repairs is taking place and soon it will be empty.  Now would be a perfect time for a group of people to clear the horsetail from the pond which is totally overgrown. We can help restore this pond to its natural state.

Lollipop Fencing

Creg Y Cowin in Baldwin is our latest reserve which has been purchased with the help of funds from Aviva for the British Isles temperate rainforest project. It’s a bit of a trek to the site so if you’re up for a challenge, and would like to help us install some fencing, let us know.

Path Building

The Ramsey Forest Project is working to create the Island’s first forest by expanding and linking the glens, plantations and woodlands between Ramsey and Sulby. Creating paths through this network is imperative to allow people to access this wonderful environment. Grab a sledgehammer and set to work creating something that will last for generations.

Moorland Clean

Hundreds of trees have been planted in a remote part of the island. When trees are planted, they are protected by plastic tubes to prevent them from being nibbled by all kinds of herbivores. The tree guards need removing after some time and we need to work to clear the forest of these plastic tubes.

Beach Surveying

Have you heard of nurdles? Nurdles are a type of microplastic that can often be found on our beaches. They are a hazard for wildlife and something that researchers are keen to learn more about. Take part in this scientific data collection project and help us learn more.

Boardwalk Building on the Calf

A new boardwalk is required to enable our Calf wardens, guests and marine officers to navigate the small and remote island that is the Calf of Man. This is a great team building event will take 2 to 3 days and includes a stay on the Calf which results in a clearly noticeable and positive outcome. Visiting the Calf is entirely weather dependent so last minute changes may be required to postpone or enable the trip to take place. It adds a certain level of excitement to the project!
