While many young birds are currently leaving their nests and bird boxes for the first time, Manx Wildlife Trust volunteer Godfrey Pitts has been busy creating a bird box with a difference!

Gerry Callister, Board Director of the Manx Co-operative Limited and Manager of the Port Erin store
, recently invited the Trust to install a collection box in his shop.

As this was to be a first for the Trust, Fundraising Officer Anne Marie Kilgallon wanted the design of the collection box to reflect the Trust’s aim of protecting Manx wildlife for the future and so enlisted Godfrey’s help.

The end result was a beautifully painted, wooden collection box graced with a carving of the ever-popular garden bird, the Great Tit.  The box will be in place in the Port Erin store, in Station Road, for the next six months.

Many thanks to both Godfrey and Gerry (pictured with the collection box, left) for their support.
