Living Seas are our vision for the future of our seas

The Living Seas programme is involved with inspiring people about the wealth of wildlife in our seas and how best to protect it for the future. The work includes monitoring our small shark species through a tagging programme, to conducting Island wide seal surveys, encouraging puffins to nest on the Calf of Man, continuing to monitor seal pup births around the Calf and monitoring non-native invasive species to enable a better understand our wildlife. With over 87% of our Manx territory being marine there is plenty of work.

As an Island nation Living Seas have an important role in all our lives, whether it be our livelihood, our playground or our wellbeing

Legacy funding has helped to continue the marine work by:

  • Supporting the role of the Marine Officer
  • Providing equipment, such as rock pooling nets
  • Supporting marine information displays and educational resources
  • Funding marine surveys
